Thrive Hive 2025 in Baker, NV

 

The Stargazer Inn & Bristlecone General Store are located in Baker, Nevada, the home of Great Basin National Park. Our small, but mighty, town of 120 residents welcomes 150,000 visitors annually who are making the trek to visit some of Nevada’s most amazing natural wonders - Bristlecone Pines, Lehman Caves, miles of quiet hiking trails, and dark starry skies. In addition to offering lodging and essential travel needs, we host events throughout the year that connect people to each other and to the landscape around them. 

Our backyard is a sanctuary of shade trees, Adirondack chairs, picnic tables, a corn hole court and an interactive Word Wall. The World Wall began as a structure to hide the property’s propane tank and has been transformed into an annual outlet for creative pursuits. 

Every year we put out a bucket of paint pens and encourage people to express themselves by adding a picture, design, word, or poem to the word wall. At the end of the year, we bless the wall and then paint over it to clear the deck for new ideas. 

This year’s theme was inspired by the Honeycomb Project, curated by Candace Garlock. I met at Candace in Ely, NV, at the 2025 Basin to Range Exchange sponsored by the Nevada Arts Council. During an evening session, I took part in creating a honeycomb that was added to the project’s collection from people across the state of Nevada. I was inspired to continue this collaboration by dedicating this year’s Word Wall as a Thrive Hive. Candace’s mission of finding strength and beauty in the collective effort was a seamless fit with the mission of my store and inn.

Local residents and travelers from around the globe helped fill our hives with messages and symbols of Love and Kindness. Instead of painting over the wall this year,  we’re going to continue our project in 2026 and add as many hives as the wall will hold. Come thrive with us and be a member of our hive!!
