Judy "JJ" Jacobs
I make paintings of ordinary things—cups, bowls, chairs, flowers, plants—objects we live with every day but don’t always notice. I’m especially drawn to their shapes and how they quietly hold stories, routines, and memories.
I use a variety of mediums, and usually start by drawing directly on the surface. I outline the forms with a dark pencil, then fill them in with color, leaving pieces of the lines showing. I like the simplicity of this method—it keeps the work feeling raw and imperfect, which is exactly the point. I’m not trying to create realism as I prefer to capture a feeling or a memory.
My style is flat, naive, and intentionally shadow-free. I strive to keep the objects clear and present, with a sense of whimsy.
In today’s busy world, it's important to slow down and appreciate the little things. My goal is to make "simple, honest art" that helps reconnect us with the beauty of the everyday, and to do so in a charming way that brings joy to our Souls.
