I find inspiration in the organic patterns and networks that emerge around us- biological, social, physical, and informational. While I typically screen print or carve linoleum plates, I chose to use collage on this project. I found National Geographic magazines from the year 2000, which was meant to be a huge transition for the world with fears of Y2K. For me it was a year that changed the direction and energy of my life. It was the first time I left the United States, and at the very end of the trip I was assaulted. I returned to the US feeling very different than when I left. Making these collages helped me reflect on my experience and turn the broken parts into something beautiful.
