Dianne DiCarlo

My name is Dianne DiCarlo, I'm a retired graphic designer from The Sacramento Bee. I have an illustrator background and Commercial Art degree. I enjoy painting many different subjects: Landscapes; Figurative; Portraits; Animals; Still Life. I have worked with different mediums: Oil; Acrylic; Watercolor; Pastel; Pen & Ink; Collage.

This painting is a nostalgic return to the past, not much has more retro appeal than a pair of roller rink rental skates. Even though I haven't skated in years, I'm flooded with visions of skaters flying around the rink (or gripping the wall edge) as they keep time to tunes by The Jacksons and The Bee Gees. And who can forget Funky Town by The Lipps, Inc, to name a few. I'm sure the music selection has changed through the generations as well as the expression of style. With only a handful of roller rinks still in operation in California, our community is fortunate to still have the rink which I took my children and now my grandchildren. Still a place for fun exercise, socializing with friends while enjoying "Simpler Times"!
