My work explores the patterns, textures, and connections found in nature, with a focus on flora and fauna from native habitats. This piece was inspired by my winter art residency at Great Basin National Park. The hexagons are connected by the Great Basin Rattlesnake, an endemic species, filled and surrounded by plants native to the region, including Manzanita, Paintbrush, Sagebrush, Desert Mallow, Ephedra, Pinyon Pine, and more. Hidden within the rattlesnake are two of its prey: a Great Basin Collared Lizard and a Great Basin Pocket Mouse. Through my work, I hope to inspire a deeper respect and appreciation of places like Great Basin National Park, which contain wildlife and landscapes that are truly irreplaceable. Their preservation relies on the support of the National Park Service and dedicated national park friends groups like the Great Basin National Park Foundation.
