Friendship Flowers: Cadian Leslie, Caylex Leslie, Jazmin Mabunda
Jazmin - For this project, I made a honeycomb-shaped panel that has a bright yellow sunflower on it. My panel is part of a group piece with two of my friends. One of them made a panel with a pink part of the flower, and the other made one with an orange part. When you put all three panels together, they connect to form one big sunflower. The petals match up across the panels, and we all used the same blue background to tie everything together.
To make my panel, I first used acrylic paste to add texture to the sunflower. I applied it with a palette knife to build up the surface and give the petals more depth. After it dried, I painted over it using acrylic paint. I layered different shades of yellow to give the flower a more realistic and vibrant look, and I blended blues in the background to create a smooth, even sky. The texture from the paste helped the painting stand out and gave it a more three-dimensional feel.
This artwork means a lot to me because it was about working with my friends to build something bigger. Seeing how all our pieces fit together made me appreciate how different ideas and styles can come together to make something even better.
Caylex - This art reflects my friendship that I made in high school. It represents the values of creativity and adventure that I look for in friends. I collabed with my twin sister Cadian and my friend Jazmin. I decided to paint my third of the flower orange because it creates a sense of creativity and enthusiasm I find in my friendship. I decide to use modeling paste to highlight to texture of the sunflower and this helps represent how sometimes friendship are not perfect but instead an opportunity to grow. The blue contrast with the orange to represent how different personality can help form strong connections.
Cadian - My honeycomb project represents my friendship with my twin sister Caylex and my friend Jazmine. I decided to do my third of the flower pink because I wanted to represent the love that we share for each other. By using modeling paste to reflect the sunflowers texture, I wanted to symbolize the realness of this friendship. This friendship has effected me in many ways, one of which is showing how I can grow as a person. Just as sunflowers represent happiness and loyalty, I reflect those qualities through my friendship. We decided to paint the background blue because we wanted to depict that despite our friendship being filled with happiness and laughter, our friendship also includes a scense of melancholy and comfort.
