This piece reflects a simpler form of the beauty displayed by the massive, circular rose windows found in many Gothic cathedrals and churches. Complete with a gilded frame, the honeycomb is reflective of the style of Gothic art and glasswork. Composed of acrylic paint and gold leaf, this piece was inspired by my religious upbringing. In Catholic tradition, rose windows stand in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary and are a reminder of the faithful’s devotion to her. With this piece comes the message that simplicity carries beauty. Though the art is only composed of patterns of dots, it reflects the aesthetic of a more intricate art form. In creating this piece, I learned about precision, sizing, spacing, and creating color contrast to ensure that the resulting art was vibrant and cohesive. In stark contrast to my typical art, oil portraiture, this creation and its predictable patterns were soothing to create as I played with bold colors that I do not normally get to use. Ornate yet delicate, my honeycomb exhibits the detailed and gaudy styles of the time and is a small manifestation of the religious architecture from which I drew my inspiration.
