I was inspired by the photographs of Ryolite and Nevada ghost towns in the Winter edition of Nevada magazine. I visited Ryolite in March; the remnants of the bank and other town buildings seemed like Nevada's version of Roman ruins. As I went through the magazine, I collected images that distinctly made me think of Nevada, like hot air balloons, big horn sheep, birds, and stars. I cut out the woman and dog who were in the photo of Ryolite, but flipped the woman around so it looked like she was staring at all of this wonder. I moved to Nevada from the Midwest in September, so in a way this panel was a snapshot of my year of experiencing the high desert.
