A mated pair of Great Horned Owls use a nearby barn as home base, which means that most years one to three owlets will hatch and fledge. With my telephoto lens, I captured the side lighting on this year's fluffy offspring. By climbing a ladder at a respectful distance, I met this young owl almost eye to eye. Later that day, this owlet flew through the barn's back gate. Like his parents, he'll be back soon.
