For the Honeycomb Project I truly enjoyed going back to the challenge and satisfaction of calling to mind a sense of place.
Glacier Crevice was inspired by one of the photos I took on my trip to Alaska. As my sister said, "You think of a glacier being pure white (especially when seen from a far), but they are covered with little rocks right up to the crevices." The contrast of the white with the beautiful blues and turquoise of the water is striking.
I recently finished a book that was really like an adventure story called Looking for Alaska by Peter Jenkins. He spent a couple of years in Alaska meeting old time Alaskans. It was a fascinating book. My exploration wasn't quite adventurous from a cruise ship, but it did give me some wonderful memories. After reading the book, I was inspired to go back to my pictures of my own time there, and the pictures of the crevices in the glacier really resonated for me. As my sister said, "You think of a glacier being pure white (especially when seen from a far), but they are covered with little rocks right up to the crevices." The contrast of the white with the beautiful blues and turquoise of the water is striking.
Looking up was inspired by gazing up at the sky through the beautiful pines from my son's hammock at South Lake Tahoe. Some of the branches were in sunlight, and some were shaded by other branches.
