Tina Drakulich
This handmade paper is made from recycled military uniforms at 1000 Cranes Paper Mill. It has inclusions of origami cranes, also of the same handmade paper. Tina Drakulich hopes to create art that spreads messages of hope and beauty, especially to those who have experienced difficulties resulting from loss, war, and military service.
The origami crane is a symbol of hopes and intentions. 1000 cranes are often used to physically illustrate one’s prayers, such as for health or a happy marriage.
The artist hopes that “Prayers and Intentions” will set a message on renewal. The act of cutting up the uniform that may symbolize multiple levels of grief and trauma can in itself be healing. Then to make something beautiful of that is a win in social, emotional, and spiritual battles that the military-connected community often faces.
