As I was making my Honeycombs, I was thinking about insect nests. I wanted to use a combination of materials, wood burning, ceramic ink and resin. Since the hexagon is wood, I used wood burning to bring out the material. The ceramic component provides the overall structure creating "cells". I used ink to introduce color and the resin casts to create an idea of an egg sac. I wanted to make a piece that could stand alone, but also work well in a large group and relate to the idea of a honeycomb, with compartmentalized life forms.

  1. Fabulous! The smooth texture moves like an egg and the dimensions pop yet flow with interactive contrast of line, color, and form. Beautiful!
